Frank Schübel: “It’s not good to drink eight espressos a day” – Economy

How credible is a sentence like that when it comes from a man who earns his money with tea? A lot. Teekanne boss Frank Schübel explains why Germany is developing a tea culture and what can go wrong when preparing tea.

Frank Schübel, 58, knows about drinks. As a reorganizer, he got the Weihenstephan dairy and the spirits manufacturer Berentzen back on track. For five years he has been managing the business of Germany’s largest tea manufacturer Teekanne as an external manager, a fourth-generation family business that has already overcome a number of crises. Business is currently going well, with sales recently rising to almost 300 million euros, also thanks to the Corona crisis. Over a steaming pot of peppermint tea in his Düsseldorf office, Schübel explains why he cannot rest on his laurels.
