François Bayrou opposed to the idea of a rapprochement of the executive with LR

François Bayrou does not look favorably on an alliance between the majority and the LRs. The president of the Modem warned Wednesday against this idea, which according to him would mean the loss of the “DNA” of macronism.

“Some dream of an RPR restoration government, not me,” he told the Figaro, in an allusion to the party of Jacques Chirac, one of the founding components of the UMP which has since become Les Républicains (LR). “If we chose to decentralize the majority to pull it to one side or the other, there would be great risks of losing coherence. »

The Equation of Securing a Majority in the Assembly

“The election of Emmanuel Macron was made on a central base: it is the only balance that guarantees the possibility of dialogue and cooperation with the Republican right and the social-democratic left”, developed the president of the party. centrist, early ally of the Head of State.

As rumors of a reshuffle swirl, some majority players are pleading for a more formal rapprochement with LR in the hope of securing a majority in the National Assembly. But this hypothesis arouses the opposition of part of the camp of the head of state, who wishes to maintain the “overrun” between the right and the left. Renaissance, the presidential party, notably invited its parliamentary executives on June 21 to “discuss the political context and the strategy of the majority” for the rest of the five-year term.
