At the beginning of October, things looked so good, at least on Twitter. When France’s President visited Berlin on German Unity Day, his team posted a photo of Emmanuel Macron and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), united in front of the Berlin evening sky. “The world needs cohesion more than ever,” it said in German. Three weeks later, Macron and Scholz meet again, this time in Paris. And cohesion isn’t working so well at the moment.
