It was apparently the bloody escalation of a long-standing dispute: A 71-year-old attacked his neighbors in France with a gun and killed a child.

A 71-year-old man shot and killed an eleven-year-old girl in the northern French holiday region of Brittany and critically injured the girl’s father. As the prosecutor reported on Sunday, the pensioner suddenly came out of his own house armed on Saturday evening and fired several shots at his neighbors who were in their garden. He then holed up in his house with his wife.

Shots were apparently fired after years of argument

The summoned police had a negotiator talk to the retired couple from the Netherlands. The expert finally got the couple to turn themselves in. The two were arrested.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the mother of the eleven-year-old who was killed was also injured by the shots. The eight-year-old sister went into shock. According to initial investigations, the act of violence was apparently preceded by years of neighborhood disputes over an adjacent property.
