After the fatal attack on a teacher in Arras, additional soldiers are being mobilized in France. They are supposed to patrol metropolitan areas and tourist areas to deter further attacks.

In France, 7,000 soldiers are being mobilized for increased security patrols after the fatal knife attack on a teacher. This was announced by President Emmanuel Macron. From Monday evening, the soldiers will be deployed in city centers and tourist locations until further notice.

The highest security level was declared on Friday. This allows the government to temporarily mobilize the army to, among other things, protect public places. In contrast to Germany, soldiers in France are also deployed to protect public places such as airports and train stations.

The suspected perpetrator was known to the secret service

On Friday, a former student at a high school in Arras, northern France, killed the French teacher Dominique B. and injured a teacher and a security guard. The suspected attacker was arrested. It is a Russian from the North Caucasus who has been under surveillance by the secret services since the summer because of possible radicalization. The French anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office took over the investigation.

Police were unable to confirm local media reports that the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar.” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Friday that the attack was related to events in the Middle East.

Some children and staff returned to Gambetta Carnot School in Arras on Saturday morning. There weren’t supposed to be any lessons, but the school offered discussions and support.
