During the unrest in France after the killing of 17-year-old Nahel M. at a traffic check, a young man died – possibly from a police shot.

During night riots in France, a young man may have been shot dead by police with a rubber bullet in Marseille. The 27-year-old probably died on Sunday night as a result of a “violent blow to the chest” caused by a “rubber bullet-type projectile,” said the public prosecutor’s office in the southern French port city of the AFP news agency. According to initial findings, the impact of the projectile led to cardiac arrest.

At the time, the area had been shaken by “riots and looting,” prosecutors said. However, it is unclear whether the 27-year-old took part in them. The public prosecutor’s office initiated investigations into the circumstances, the criminal police and the police supervisory authority (IGPN) were involved.

After a police officer fatally shot 17-year-old Nahel M. during a traffic check in a Paris suburb, there were violent protests in the greater Paris area and in numerous other French cities for several nights. In addition to the riots in Paris, those in Marseille were particularly violent. After serious riots on Friday night, the police operation in France’s second largest city was massively expanded on Saturday evening.
