France: Is this riot video with falling cars real?

Watch the video: France riots fact check – Is the video of cars being thrown out of a parking deck real?

This alleged riot video from France is currently circulating on social media.

The sensational clip is said to show how cars are thrown out of a parking garage onto the street as part of the current riots – and explode on impact.

The video is viewed, commented on and shared millions of times on social media.

But what does it mean? Is the clip real or a fake?

The video is a fake.

A reverse search reveals that the recordings were already spreading in 2016 and thus years before the current riots in the social networks.

The video is footage of the filming of the Hollywood blockbuster “Fast & Furious 8” in Cleveland, Ohio.

The final scene from the theatrical film is available on the series’ YouTube channel. In the excerpt it can be seen that the building in the film and the social media clip are the same structure.

The case shows how easily videos can be taken out of context in the context of current events.

An old clip showing the filming of the blockbuster has been turned into an allegedly current video of the riots in France.

How do we check videos for manipulation in the editorial office? It is important to look at the details. The individual frames of a video often reveal whether a video has been edited. We take a close look at each image and enlarge individual sections. Indications of a fake are, for example: lack of motion blur, unnatural shadows or editing errors. The general rule at stern is: Seriousness before speed. We always double-check facts and material thoroughly before publishing them. For this we work with the cross-editorial “Team Verification” together with RTL, NTV, RTL2, Radio NRW.
