France and Morocco will meet for the first time since 2007

The oppositions between France and Morocco bring back to the dawn of festive summers, when the Blues of Zinédine Zidane dominated the football planet. Of the five oppositions between the two nations, between 1988 and 2007, three took place over the period 1998-2000 and two during the Hassan-II tournament in Casablanca. On May 29, 1998, at the Mohammed-V stadium, two days after a victory against Belgium (1-0, goal by Zidane), Aimé Jacquet’s band lost on penalties against Morocco (2-2, 6 -5 to tabs).

In a selection articulated around the cadors Mustapha Hadji and Noureddine Naybet, the Corunna striker Salaheddine Bassir had scored a double, plunging France into doubt. At that time, she was advancing a little sheepishly towards her World Cup at home, targeted by criticism that she would return like pancakes over the course of her journey.

The Blues have never lost against Morocco

On June 6, 2000, in the same enclosure, the world champions arrive in a state of mind and roll over Morocco (5-1). Thierry Henry, Youri Djorkaeff, Nicolas Anelka, Christophe Dugarry and the incoming Sylvain Wiltord: all the attacking elements are illustrated, while Zidane left his role as leader to Johan Micoud until the 61st. This team will win Euro 2000 a month later, in Rotterdam.

The last confrontation dates back to November 16, 2007, Henri Michel’s Morocco hanging a reshuffled Blues at the Stade de France (2-2). The Habs have never lost against the Atlas Lions, and Wednesday will be their first opposition in the World Cup.
