Around 1.35 billion dollars, i.e. around 1.25 billion euros – that’s how much a lottery player in the USA has now won. It was the fourth largest jackpot in US history. Previously there had been no winner 25 times in a row.

A jackpot worth around 1.35 billion dollars (1.25 billion euros) has been hit in the USA. The lottery ticket with the correct five numbers 30, 43, 45, 46 and 61 and the additional number 14 was submitted to the state of Maine, according to the operators of the Mega Millions lottery.

For the seventh time in the history of the lottery, the jackpot was hit on the alleged unlucky day, Friday the 13th. Previously there had been no winner 25 times in a row.

Full profit only by paying in installments

Winnings are paid out in annual installments or immediately and are taxable. A winner will only receive the $1.35 billion if they choose to pay it out in 29 annual installments. So far, however, most winners have preferred the cash payment. That would bring in the correct six on Friday an estimated $ 724.6 million. It was the fourth largest jackpot in US history.

Jackpots in the US reach such large sums because the chance of winning is extremely low. It is only one in 302.6 million in the Mega Millions lottery. The biggest jackpot in the US to date was hit in California in November 2022: the Powerball lottery was worth $2.04 billion at the time.
