Four people in police custody for the violent attack on an elected ecologist on the sidelines of a Reconquest rally

Fractured arm, head trauma and sprained neck. Four people are in police custody in the investigation opened after the attack on Sunday of an elected environmentalist from La Seyne-sur-Mer (Var), seriously injured on the sidelines of a rally of local activists from the far-right party Reconquest, we learned Friday after the Toulon prosecutor’s office.

Thirty days of ITT

They were arrested Thursday morning and will be brought to court on Friday afternoon, explained the Toulon prosecutor, Samuel Finielz. Hakim Bouaksa, elected municipal EELV (Europe Ecologie Les Verts) opposition from La Seyne-sur-Mer, had filed a complaint on Sunday, presenting a total incapacity for work (ITT) of 30 days after being attacked on the sidelines of a “banquet” of Reconquest militants organized in a campsite. Injuries that the prosecution describes as “very serious”.

The four people arrested are “rather people in charge of the operation of the campsite”, specified the prosecutor, without being able to say if they also have an activist profile or sympathizer of the far-right party. “The militant side or not is not a determining subject of criminal responsibilities”, insisted Samuel Finielz.

The prosecution had opened on Sunday “a flagrant investigation for aggravated violence”, entrusted to the police station of Seyne-sur-Mer. In a press release, Europe Ecologie Les Verts (EELV) explained that Hakim Bouaksa had come to demonstrate “peacefully” against the holding of this rally in a campsite, and that he was “violently attacked”, suffering among other things from a fracture arm, head trauma and cervical sprain.

The formation of Éric Zemmour had, for its part, denied the involvement of the movement’s security service. “It was with the campsite staff, exasperated by the blocking and the insults uttered against all their customers, that the latter had an altercation”, he had assured.
