Showdown in Bischofshofen: At the Four Hills Tournament, the decision is made about overall victory. The German hopeful is looking forward to numerous supporters.

Looks after his setback in qualifying Andreas Wellinger’s competitor Ryoyu Kobayashi has a clear advantage in the decision for the overall victory in the Four Hills Tournament.

“He’s the clear favorite, he’s proven that,” said Wellinger. “I have planned something different for this day. Today was still a bit wooden.” Wellinger took ninth place in the qualification, Kobayashi won comfortably.

Nevertheless, Wellinger did not let his confidence be completely undermined. He is “extremely optimistic that I will ski jump well,” said the 28-year-old, who is also looking forward to many special fans from home. Wellinger’s mother, who is involved in organizing the Biathlon World Cup that will take place in Ruhpolding next week, should make it to the Paul-Außerleitner-Schanze in time.

“The plan would be for her to be there tomorrow,” Wellinger said. His father, his sister, his brother-in-law, his girlfriend with her family and friends also want to join in the excitement live on site. “It takes too long to list them all,” said Wellinger and laughed.

He also receives support from the team. Roommate Stefan Leyhe, who turned 32 on qualifying day, is hoping for two reasons for a big party on Saturday evening. “There will definitely be a celebration. I hope it will be very big,” he said, referring to Wellinger’s possible triumph. Mentally he sees his friend as well prepared. “He can handle it very well,” he said about the pressure on Wellinger. The competition starts at 4:30 p.m.
