Andreas Wellinger showed slight nerves for the first time on the third stage of the 72nd Four Hills Tournament and missed out on a top placement in the qualification.
As in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Slovenian Anze Lanisek took victory with the day’s best distance of 134 meters ahead of the overall World Cup leader Stefan Kraft (124.5 meters).
With changing wind conditions, the athletes had to hold out on the start beam again and again, but the jury did not make any adjustments to the start gate.
The competition was conducted entirely from Luke 11.
DSV Adler just mediocre
The ski jump in Tyrol once again didn’t suit the DSV Eagles on Tuesday. Behind Wellinger (15th), Philipp Raimund (122.5 m) and Stephan Leyhe (114.5 m) made it to places 20 and 30. Especially Leyhe, who was solid at 124 and 123 in training shortly before qualification, After flying 5 meters, Rätsle gives up. “He is currently so callous and is ruining everything in the air,” analyzed Eurosport-Expert Werner Schuster.
Karl Geiger (114 meters/33rd place) and Piuis Paschke (112.5 meters/35th place), who placed fourth and third in the overall World Cup, were even weaker.
After all, all five German starters qualified for the competition.
Kubacki eliminated – Granerud qualified
The afternoon went completely wrong for Dawid Kubacki. The Pole made a mistake on the jump and missed the competition. “It’s a sensation,” said Schuster, assessing last year’s winner’s qualifying exit at Bergisel. At least Halvor Egner Granerud qualified in 29th place. Last year’s tour winner had missed the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Compatriot Marius Lindvik also failed to climb to a top position, but the 2021/22 tour runner-up at least rehabilitated himself as the best Norwegian in 19th place.
Youngster Embacher is paying attention
Stephan Embacher also caused a stir, climbing onto the beam with start number four at the end of the national group. As the second youngest athlete, the 17-year-old Tyrolean took the lead with a strong 121.5 m and only gave it up again after 30 jumpers. Embacher, who recently shook up the Continental Cup, finished the qualification in 13th place.
“I have worked with him for three years. He is a good boy, trains hard and has enormous abilities,” said Eurosport-Expert Schuster, who was also pleased about the qualification of his son Jonas Schuster (116.5 m/rank 47).
