Four custom designs and Nvidia’s Founders Edition in the PCGH test lab

The release of the Geforce RTX 4070 Super, which is the first of three super graphics cards to be released on January 17th and will of course be accompanied by a very detailed PCGH test, is imminent. In line with this, a total of four custom designs as well as Nvidia’s Founders Edition have already taken place in the in-house test laboratory and want to prove themselves.

MSRP models and Founders Edition are the beginning

While the higher-priced custom designs, some with subtle factory OCs, are still subject to an NDA, the models that are based on the manufacturer’s recommended retail price, the so-called MSRP (“Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price”), can already be presented today and accordingly be tested. Four of the custom designs are currently being thoroughly examined by PCGH, compared with each other and evaluated on their own merits. The manufacturer models will be presented in more detail here.

Zotac Geforce RTX 4070 Super Trinity Black Edition

The Zotac Geforce RTX 4070 Super Trinity Black Edition relies on the already well-known “IceStrom 2.0” cooling solution with a total of three 100 mm axial fans and a mandatory 0dB zero fan mode. The 2.5-slot high custom graphics card measures 306.8 × 119.4 × 58.5 mm and, in addition to a solid aluminum backplate, also offers more subtle (A)RGB lighting, which is christened the product name “Zotac Spectra”. has been.

Also mandatory are 1 × 16-pin PCIe 5.0 (via adapter: 2 × 8-pin PCIe 4.0) as well as 1 × HDMI 2.1a and 3 × DisplayPort 1.4a on the I/O area of the graphics card. The TDP is specified as 220 watts as intended by Nvidia, while the custom design is supplied with energy via a 12VHPWR connection.

Asus TUF Gaming Geforce RTX 4070 Super

The Asus TUF Gaming Geforce RTX 4070 Super is also strictly based on the specifications of Nvidia’s Founders Edition and is based on a 3.15 slot high cooling design with three 95 mm axial fans and 0dB mode.

In addition to the factory-activated Q mode (“Quiet”), the dual BIOS also provides an OC mode (“Overclocking”) with 30 MHz higher clock frequencies for the boost. The custom graphics card measures 301 × 139 × 63 mm and offers 1 × HDMI 2.1a and 3 × DisplayPort 1.4a on the back. The factory default TDP is 220 watts.

Gigabyte Aorus Geforce RTX 4070 Super Master

The Gigabyte Aorus Geforce RTX 4070 Super Master, with its less subtle (A)RGB lighting, the so-called “RGB Halo”, is one of the most striking and effective custom designs based on the Geforce RTX 4070 Super. The large manufacturer graphics card takes up four slots and measures a generous 342 × 153 × 71 mm.

The almost huge dimensions also enable a very expansive cooling concept with three illuminated 110 mm axial fans as well as the obligatory 0dB zero fan mode. When it comes to connectivity, Gigabyte is on par with the competition and, in addition to a power supply via 12VHPWR connection, offers 1 × HDMI 2.1a and 3 × DisplayPort 1.4a. The clock frequencies and the TDP correspond to the specifications from Nvidia.

Gainward Geforce RTX 4070 Super Ghost

The Gainward Geforce RTX 4070 Super Ghost is by far the most discreet of the four MSRP models presented here and only has illuminated RGB lettering on the side and an entirely black product design with particularly compact dimensions.

The dimensions of the Gainward Geforce RTX 4070 Super Ghost, which is the only graphics card presented here to use a cooling concept that is only two slots high and only has two 95 mm axial fans, are 269.1 × 131.8 × 40.1 mm. Of course, Gainward also adheres to Nvidia’s specifications regarding clock frequencies, power supply and power loss.

The RRP is 659 euros each

All MSRP models presented here will be available in retail from January 17th at an RRP of 659 euros, while the more expensive custom designs with factory OC are likely to be significantly more expensive.

The Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070 Super FE

Finally, we would like to provide a few impressions of the Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070 Super Founders Edition, which is the first of the new super graphics cards to prove itself in the detailed test by PCGH.
