The Aschaffenburg Regional Court has sentenced a woman to four and a half years in prison for killing her mother who was mentally ill and in need of care. According to court information on Tuesday, the chamber assumed manslaughter in a less serious case. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
The public prosecutor had pleaded for four years and ten months in prison, the defense for acquittal because the woman was not able to control herself at the time of the crime. The defendant confessed to the crime at the start of the trial last week.
According to the investigators, she first hit the 82-year-old on the head with a glass bottle on August 15, 2022 in Elsenfeld, Lower Franconia. Then the 58-year-old woman stabbed several times with a kitchen knife. She does not remember the attack, the defendant had her defense attorney explain in court. After that she tried to take her own life. Her own daughter found her and called emergency services.
According to the indictment, the 58-year-old looked after and cared for her parents for a long time “with great commitment”. In the summer of 2022, the parents and the woman became infected with Corona. Her father moved into a nursing home four days before the crime. The mother, who had been mentally ill for many years, stayed behind in the house in the Miltenberg district.
The 82-year-old is said to have put her social environment, but especially her daughter, under strong pressure, manipulated and instrumentalized at times. When the accused drove to her mother on the morning of the crime, the situation apparently escalated.
