Forty-four departments placed on yellow vigilance “snow and ice”

Big sweater, big coat, big socks, big hat. The start of the week promises to be icy throughout France, with negative temperatures expected throughout our territory. Only Corsica and the city of Nice will be spared. Elsewhere, it is a very cold Monday and Tuesday which are announced. Winter temperatures that could be accompanied by snowfall, freezing fog and potentially ice.

The most important risk seems to be the risk of freezing rain with the arrival of precipitation during the day. “The risk of freezing rain and significant accumulations of snow in the evening in the south of the Massif Central should be monitored”, warns Météo-France. An episode of extreme cold is to be feared with temperatures close to -10 degrees. On Sunday, we recorded -9 degrees in Rocamadour, in the Lot.

The volcanoes of Auvergne will not be the only ones concerned. This Monday, forecasters placed 44 French departments alert yellow snow and ice. The phenomenon extends from the tip of Brittany to the Pays-de-la-Loire via Normandy and the Hauts de France. The Grand-Est and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region are also concerned. “Stubborn fog in Finistère can disrupt traffic conditions”, warns in particular the direction of the roads of the west which fears “generalized frosts with minimum temperatures between -1 and -6 degrees”.

School transport canceled in Finistère

This episode of cold prompted some departments to cancel some school transport, especially in Finistère. A resident of the Plouescat sector explained to our colleagues from France Bleu that “the hail that fell on Sunday did not melt”, making the roads slippery. In Hauts-de-France, the speed had been lowered by 20 km / h on all roads due to the risk of slipping. On Sunday, some snowfall was observed in Nantes, disrupting traffic on the ring road. This episode of cold will last all week, causing the risk of snowfall.
