Forstenrieder Park – Hardly any criticism of wind turbine plans – Munich district

Six wind turbines in the landscape protection area Forstenrieder Park – that could trigger excitement in the public participation. It was not until the Grünwald citizens’ meeting that an applicant warned against wind turbines, arguing, among other things, that there were health disadvantages for people and that many birds would be killed by the rotors. The approximately 20 interested parties who came to the first citizens’ forum of the Ebersberg-Munich energy agency on Monday evening in the Pullach community center were more in favor of the plans that the four municipalities of Pullach, Baierbrunn, Neuried and Schäftlarn are pursuing together.

They asked how long it would take for the wind turbines to be up and running, how much electricity they would produce and “what exactly will the citizens get out of it”, i.e. whether they can expect any savings from this. Only two visitors expressed concerns. One was concerned about the noise from the wind turbines, having observed this when visiting wind turbines. “I’m in Forstenrieder Park every day,” she said. “This is a local recreation area for many citizens.” The speaker Peter Beermann from the engineering and planning office of the same name reassured them that they did not need to fear this. “The wind turbines will not be in the entire forest, but only near the highway.”

“Wind caretaker” Peter Beermann answered questions about the wind power plans in Forstenrieder Park in the community center in Pullach.

A second visitor demanded that explosive topics should also be addressed in public participation. As examples, she cited the theory that wind turbines cause droughts and the fact that they contain the toxic gas FF6. Beermann explained that this gas is contained in all switchgear, not just in wind turbines. However, it does not normally escape, so this risk is very low. “I think the argument is being used to badmouth wind energy,” he said.

Experts from the Munich District Office have already established in the past that the construction of wind turbines in landscape protection areas is not only tolerable, but even mandatory in order to achieve climate targets. A report by the Technical University of Munich has already shown that the wind turbines can be built without damaging the Forstenrieder Park landscape protection area.

Beermann and the second speaker Dietmar Narr, who, as a landscape architect, examines the biodiversity at the planned locations with his office, also confirmed that only a few interventions are to be expected. Beermann reported that you only need an area of around 3000 square meters per wind turbine, according to Narr the biodiversity in the state forest, which is already heavily managed, is not excessive.

Even anthills will be relocated prior to construction

Narr described in detail how the species living there are being mapped at the six planned locations for the wind turbines. Since February and until November, biologists have been observing everything that crawls, flees and flies. For example, the flight movements of large bird species at risk of collision – such as honey buzzard, red kite, wood falcon, gray heron – are observed six hours a day from lifting platforms that reach above the treetops, for a total of 600 hours during the project. A solution would then be sought for the affected species, for example anthills would be relocated and, with the help of GPS, caves in the trunks would be located “exactly on the tree” and replacements created elsewhere.
