Attention: Formula 1 starts the new racing season on a Saturday this year. The reason is an Islamic custom.

The This year, the Formula 1 season unusually begins with two races on a Saturday. Both the Bahrain Grand Prix in the Sakhir desert and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah will not start on a Sunday as usual. The reason for this is the upcoming Ramadan.

The Islamic month of fasting begins this year on March 10th, Sunday next week. Therefore, the race in Jeddah was brought forward to March 9th. Because there has to be at least a week between two races, it was clear that the race would also start in Bahrain this Saturday (4 p.m. CET/Sky and RTL).

As the races are brought forward, the other schedules on the race weekend will also change. After two free training sessions on Thursday, qualification takes place on Friday after another practice session.
