Formula 1: Verstappen hammer? Mercedes rubs her hands
Things are still not quiet for Christian Horner despite the Red Bull decision. The Brause team stated before the Bahrain GP that the Briton would remain team boss of the Formula 1 racing team, although there were recent violent allegations against him. Of all people, things could escalate with Max Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen (more on that here).

Now there is more excitement. Jos Verstappen met with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff in the paddock in Bahrain. Since the collision between Verstappen junior and Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone 2021, there has actually been radio silence. But because of the Horner anger, a friendship could develop.
Now Max Verstappen comes back into play. From 2025, Mercedes needs a successor to Lewis Hamilton. Wolff downplayed the meeting to “F1 Insider”: “I’ve known Jos for 25 years – with ups and downs and I simply congratulated on his son’s performance. Max is driving in his own galaxy.” But when he was asked whether Verstappen could end up at Mercedes in 2025, Wolff made people sit up and take notice with his statements. “Everything is possible.”

Everything is possible. Three words that make many Red Bull and Mercedes fans gasp. Max Verstappen in a Silver Arrow? The seemingly impossible is actually possible. Whether this will also be the case in the coming Formula 1 year remains to be seen. The Dutchman still has a contract with the Brause racing team until 2028.
If Sky expert Ralf Schumacher has his way, a move to Mercedes would be possible. “There is so much unrest at Red Bull. I could imagine Max Verstappen saying he’s doing something completely different. A team structure is very fragile. If something like this happens at Red Bull, everything falls apart very quickly,” said the ex-driver.
