Max Verstappen is apparently driving towards the title hat-trick in Formula 1 unchecked. Will the Red Bull driver continue his winning streak in Montreal?

In search of a little more excitement, Formula 1 travels to Canada for the eighth round of the season. In the World Cup, defending champion Max Verstappen has already clearly set himself apart with three wins in a row. Before the Grand Prix in Montreal on Sunday, the hopes of many fans now rest on Mercedes.

Who is favorite in Canada?

The form table clearly speaks for Red Bull and world champion Verstappen. The team has won the seven races of the season so far, and the Dutchman has crossed the finish line in first place five times. Verstappen is already 53 points ahead of his Mexican stable rival Sergio Perez. “We’re going through a good phase. But we have to keep working hard and find even more performance,” said the 25-year-old. Verstappen won in Montreal last year, and this time he is probably hard to beat in the strongest car.

What can the pursuers do this time?

Especially Mercedes is on the upswing after the strong performance in Barcelona. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished second and third in the retreaded Silver Arrow. “We can assume that we will continue to be strong,” assured Hamilton. However, the only 4.3 kilometer route should not suit the Mercedes quite as well. This could offer Fernando Alonso in particular the chance of the next top result in the Aston Martin. After the somewhat sobering seventh place in Barcelona, the veteran promised, only half jokingly: “It won’t happen again, that was the last race without a podium finish.”

What makes the race special?

The metropolis of Montreal is gripped by Formula 1 fever at every Grand Prix. There is a party atmosphere in the city and in the stands. An artificial island in the St. Lawrence River has been home to the Canada Race since 1978. Many drivers love the special atmosphere and the special character of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. However, many a hope was already shattered at the “Wall of Champions” shortly before the finish, which is considered a treacherous accident black spot.

When and where can the Canada guest performance be seen?

As usual, the pay channel Sky broadcasts all units of the weekend live. The first practice session starts on Friday at 7:30 p.m. CEST, the second session is scheduled for 11:00 p.m. The final training session on Saturday at 6.30 p.m. is followed by the hunt for the best starting positions at 10 p.m. The race starts on Sunday at 8 p.m.
