Formula 1: Sebastian Vettel’s comeback at the Nürburgring Sports

Our world champion is back on the track!

Great news for German fans: Sebastian Vettel (35) will be driving a Formula 1 racing car again in September – even on a former Formula 1 track!

PICTURE white: As part of the “12h Nürburgring” from September 9th to 10th, 2023, the Formula 1 ren(n)tner will again be driving a Formula 1 car. Red Bull, with whom Vettel became world champion four times, had announced that young talents and legends would be allowed to drive for the event. It was only recently announced that Red Bull’s Formula 1 reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo will drive at the Nürburgring.

According to BILD information, Sebastian Vettel is also there!

In the meantime, the four-time world champion has also officially announced this on his Instagram channel, saying: “Hunting through the Green Hell with my Red Bull car with e-fuels. I’m happy and I’m part of Red Bull Formula Nürburgring.”

Just over a month earlier at the “Goodwood Festival of Speed”, Vettel will again be driving a Formula 1 car, namely a historic racer powered by CO²-neutral e-fuels from the Berlin manufacturer P1. In Goodwood, however, he does not roar over a real racetrack. That comes at the legendary Nürburgring – also powered by the environmentally friendly fuel.

In an interview with BILD am SONNTAG, Vettel said about his project with environmentally friendly fuels: “It’s important to me to show that we can drive just as well and quickly with synthetic, i.e. CO²-neutral fuel. And that already today. Synthetic fuels offer a solution to responsibly having fun. A lot of people just don’t know that yet.”

In the last few years of his career, Vettel had increasingly dealt with environmental issues.

Last summer around the Hungarian race he announced the end of his career. He drove his last race in November 2022 in Abu Dhabi. Since then he has lived largely away from the public eye, rarely gives interviews and spends a lot of time with his family.

At the end of May, BILD caught Vettel in the pit lane in Monaco, where he was paying a visit to old acquaintances on the Friday before the race – including in the Red Bull garage, by the way. When asked by BILD, he said: “I’ve missed it.” Apparently so much so that he’s already planning his second outing in a Formula 1 car…
