As his Haas racing team announced, the chassis had to be completely changed after his crash, making it impossible to return to the track. During the first practice session, the 23-year-old slipped off the track in turn eight on a wet road and hit the barrier violently. The front wheel suspension, the rims, the underbody and the front wing of his car were severely damaged in Suzuka. The mechanics immediately started repairs in the garage, but didn’t make it to the start of the second training session.
In the continuous rain, Schumacher was able to get out of the car uninjured and leave the scene of the accident on his own. Schumacher, who continues to fight for a contract beyond the end of the season, had previously finished his first ever session in Suzuka in seventh place. In the past two years, the track was not on the racing calendar due to the corona pandemic.
