The Haas team continues to play for time in contract poker with young Formula 1 star Mick Schumacher. “We’re in no hurry to make a decision,” said team boss Günther Steiner before the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps.

Everything is still open when it comes to the question of awarding the second cockpit to the racing team for the coming year. “We have no pressure to make a decision. Nobody is running away,” said Steiner.

Schumacher must continue to prove himself. “This business is about performance. He knows that, he’s a racer,” said the Italian. Personally, he would prefer to clarify the driver question quickly. “But we’re not ready yet,” said the 57-year-old.

The son of record world champion Michael Schumacher began his Formula 1 career last year with the Haas team. This year he collected his first twelve World Championship points, but also caused a stir with two serious accidents. “It’s been my whole career that I’ve had to work to keep racing,” said the 23-year-old.

Team boss Steiner emphasized that he wanted to keep all options open. He also did not rule out talks with Daniel Ricciardo, who has to leave McLaren at the end of the season. It’s not about a driver having to bring money. “We are financially stable and have paid all our bills,” Steiner said.
