It has now been over a year since Jost Capito caused a sensation in Formula 1 with his resignation. Now the former CEO and team boss of Williams has signed a new contract.

After years in Formula 1 with McLaren and Williams, the German is returning a little to his roots – to rallying, where he was once successful as a driver.

Formula 1: New job for Jost Capito

He was the strong man at Williams. On February 1, 2021, the racing team brought in Jost Capito as CEO, and just a few months later appointed him team boss. Less than two years later, the hammer came: out of nowhere, the German resigned from all offices.

While Williams quickly found a new team boss in James Vowles, Capito became quiet. Apart from an engagement as a consultant to an AI company, nothing more was heard from the F1 official. Until now.

Ex-F1 team boss signs with “Nitrocross”

Now the winning country is back in motorsport. After McLaren and Williams, however, not in Formula 1. The racing series “Nitrocross Racing” has now announced that it has hired Capito as a senior advisor. For the 65-year-old, it should feel like a journey home. He was once a successful rally driver himself and won the famous “Dakar Rally”. Now he is signing with an e-rallycross series.

“My strong belief in rallycross and its future with powerful and exciting electric vehicles motivates me to contribute to nitrocross,” says Capito, explaining his commitment and proclaiming his goal “to push the boundaries of motorsport and create a new era of competition and the Initiate innovation.”

The former Formula 1 official is not the only newcomer. Mike Laheta, ex-manager of the Nascar racing series, is also coming to “Nitrocross”. “Nitrocross is perfect for the way a younger audience wants to consume sports,” says the. “It is rare for a property to serve the interests of avid racing fans so well while also appealing to a new audience.
