Former “Spiegel” editor-in-chief should examine allegations – media

The former one Mirror-Editor-in-chief Steffen Klusmann, together with the head of the German School of Journalism, Henriette Löwisch, and the Eichstätter journalism professor Klaus Meier, are supposed to clarify the allegations against the deputy SZ editor-in-chief Alexandra Föderl-Schmid. According to the wishes of the SZ editor-in-chief, the three-member commission should examine whether Föderl-Schmid handled sources improperly when writing texts and thereby violated journalistic standards. The deputy editor-in-chief was accused of this by several media outlets. Föderl-Schmid also asked the University of Salzburg to examine her dissertation. The reason for this is that the Salzburg communications scientist Stefan Weber, according to his own account, found “fragments of plagiarism” in the dissertation that Föderl-Schmid submitted in 1996. Until these audits have been completed, Föderl-Schmid has withdrawn from the SZ’s day-to-day operations.
