Former socialist deputy convicted of embezzlement of public funds

Judged on October 27, the court sentenced Henri Jibrayel, 70, this Monday to 12 months in prison including 6 months suspended, five years of ineligibility and a heavy fine, reports Provence. The former socialist deputy (2007-2017) from the northern districts of Marseille was accused of having used public funds to play at the casino and satisfy his gambling addiction.

He will serve his prison sentence under house arrest with an electronic bracelet and will also have to reimburse 18,500 euros to the National Assembly and pay a fine of 10,000 euros.

Henri Jibrayel, who claimed his innocence arguing that it was his personal money, has 10 days to appeal this decision.
