Former Haniel brewery in Haimhausen is to become a residential project – Dachau

A residential project is to be built on the site of the Haniel brewery in Haimhausen – a piece of land in the old town centre, right next to the castle and Amper. A visit to the listed brewhouse shows how rocky the road to get there still is.

Dörthe von Haniel still doesn’t like to talk about the end of the family’s Schlossbrauerei Haniel. “After the war, people didn’t drink any Augustiner here. Only our beer – there wasn’t anything else.” When her daughter Monika had to stop operations in 2019 for reasons of profitability, a brewing tradition that had lasted for more than 400 years came to an end, and since then there has been no more Haniel beer. “Actually, I don’t like to remember it at all,” says Dörthe von Haniel, who is now almost 80 years old, and has nevertheless agreed to make the on-site visit in the brewhouse. Because on the site of the derelict brewery, a showcase project could be created.
