Sad news for rugby fans. Former Argentinian rugby international Federico Martin Aramburu was killed at the age of 42 in Paris on the night of Friday to Saturday after an altercation in a bar, according to sources close to the investigation.
The facts took place around 6 a.m. on Boulevard Saint-Germain in the 6th arrondissement, after “a dispute” between two groups of people, according to a police source. The groups separated and then the alleged perpetrators “returned shortly afterwards with a vehicle and fired shots,” the source said. A flagrance investigation for assassination was opened and entrusted to the criminal brigade, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.
Hit by three bullets
“We learn of the death of Federico Martín Aramburú in tragic circumstances. The entire BOPB sends its most sincere condolences to his family, loved ones, and assures them of its full support, ”tweeted his former club Biarritz Olympique late Saturday morning.
According to a former BO player, present on the spot and who wishes to remain anonymous, explained to AFP that they were at the Mabillon bar, having a last burger. “There was an altercation as there can be at the end of the evening. It worked out but the men came back and targeted Aramburu who took three bullets,” he said.
Retraining in tourism
Federico Martin Aramburu (42), former center or winger for Biarritz (2004-2006), Perpignan (2006-2008) or Dax (2008-2010), had 22 selections with Argentina. He was 42 years old.
He had also been president of the Socios du BO between 2015 and 2018 and had sat as such on the board of directors of the Basque club with which he had twice won the Top 14 (2005, 2006). Aramburu also had two appearances in the 2007 World Cup, which finished third to Pumas.
The former three-quarter had notably started in the small final, won against the Blues (34-17), a meeting during which he had scored a try. Since retiring from sport, he still lived in Biarritz and worked for a tourism company.
