Former Activision Blizzard executive joins Yuga Labs as CEO

Yuga Labs, the company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection and CryptoPunks NFT, has hired a new CEO: Daniel Alegre, the former executive who has left his role as president and chief operating officer of gaming giant. Activision Blizzard to Join Startup NFT on April 1st

Daniel Alegre has been a key player in the growth of Activision Blizzard over the years. He has overseen popular game franchises such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo and Candy Crush.

He worked for German media conglomerate Bertelsmann for nearly six years before joining Google, where he worked in various leadership positions for over 16 years in areas such as shopping revenue. Global, participating retail ecosystem, as well as operations in Asia Pacific and Latin America

Yuga Labs announced the arrival of Alegre in December. In the press release at that time, the executivesaid “The company’s products, partners, and IP represent a huge opportunity to shape the metaverse.”

Alegre’s arrival marks a major move in the NFT industry, with Kieran Warwick, co-founder of blockchain role-playing game Illuvium, saying Yuga Labs’ new hires are “huge for all of GameFi.”
