Since the fire brigade cannot get to the source of the fire from the ground due to the risk of explosion on the former military training area, they continue to rely on support from the air. The Bundeswehr has two helicopters in use for this purpose, the Federal Police one.
The extinguishing work is also concentrated on the area around the village of Altes Lager in the municipality of Niedergörsdorf in the Teltow-Fläming district.
“Major disaster” may be over
According to Kahle, it is currently being considered whether the “major damage situation” can be lifted in the course of the day. This enables emergency services from outside the district and the fire brigade to be requested. On Friday, the district of Teltow-Fläming took over the management of the operation with the announcement of the “major damage situation”.
According to the information, the entire affected area currently covers around 733 hectares. According to the operations management, there is no danger to surrounding towns.
