Forest fire: an interview with a forester about the future of our forests

Large fires such as the forest fire on the Brocken will increase with climate change. Forester Michael Rudolph explains how the forest of the future is being created in the Harz Mountains.

Mr. Rudolph, the major fire on the Brocken seems to be under control – but it probably won’t be the last. Are foresters like you worried?
We have been watching the fires on the Brocken with great concern for some time. The Brocken is our direct neighborhood, many of our forest areas border directly on the national park. And it is never predictable in which direction such a fire will go and how quickly you will get it under control.
