It has hardly rained in Great Britain for weeks, but now heavy rain is announced – which can lead to flooding. Power outages are also expected.

After the drought, there is a risk of flooding: The British weather service Met Office issued a severe weather warning for large parts of England on Tuesday and Wednesday. Parts of the country could be affected by heavy rain that could lead to flooding, the Met Office website said.

Just a few days ago, a drought emergency was declared in parts of the country after weeks of hardly raining. Meteorologists are now warning that the dry, hard ground can hardly absorb any water and that the risk of flooding has therefore increased significantly.

People were warned that buildings could quickly become flooded. Lightning, hail and strong winds can also occur. Fast-flowing or deep water masses can pose a danger to life. Disturbances on roads and in train traffic as well as failures in the power supply and other services are also to be expected. For Wednesday, the warning is limited to southern England, including London.
