At the beginning of the week it will be milder and sometimes stormy – the warmer temperatures also mean melting snow and increasing risk of flooding again. Some ferry connections will be canceled.

After the winter weekend, which was sunny in many places, the weather situation is changing Forecast changed again – wet thaw and sometimes heavy squalls are expected. The German Weather Service (DWD) announced that Hoch Corvin is saying goodbye to southeastern Europe. “We are increasingly coming into the radius of the storm Iris over the nearby Atlantic, which is giving us a windy to stormy and unstable, but also milder start to the week.”

Showers will move through Germany on Monday and arrive in the southeast in the afternoon. Meteorologists expect severe squalls in the mountains and on the coasts, and hurricane-like gusts could occur in the North Sea. At night the wind only dies down slowly.

Due to the change in the weather, the flood situation in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia could become more acute again. “The temperatures will rise into the double-digit range in some regions by Wednesday, which means the snow will begin to melt,” Cathleen Hickmann from the DWD told the German Press Agency.

Restrictions for vacationers

Due to the wind forecast, some ferry connections to the East Frisian Islands will be canceled on Monday. Some ferries to and from Norderney, Juist and Spiekeroog are affected. The ferry companies announced this on their websites on Sunday.

Holidaymakers will probably also have to expect restrictions on the ferry from Neuharlingersiel to Spiekeroog and back on Tuesday and Wednesday; a complete shutdown is also possible, as the ferry company also announced.

Britain and Ireland are also preparing for stormy weather. The British weather service Met Office warned of extremely strong winds and rain. It was quite unusual for the entire country to be under a wind warning, a weather service meteorologist told the PA news agency. Storm “Isha” was expected to hit the island on Sunday afternoon.
