A summer day – at the beginning of April: According to the German Weather Service, this is coming up at the weekend. Meteorologists use the term from 25 degrees. This doesn’t just have consequences on the water.

The sun shines through flowering trees, more and more beer gardens are putting out their chairs, there’s a lot to do outside again – whether by the sea or on the mountain. At the It is expected to be unusually warm in Germany for this time of year this weekend. The German Weather Service expects temperatures of up to 30 degrees in some places. So early summer weather is just around the corner. Five examples of who benefits from warmer weather.

1. Bookings for accommodation on the North Sea have skyrocketed

Building sand castles or lazing around in a beach chair – the number of bookings for accommodation in some places on the North Sea coast has risen sharply in recent days, for example in Norddeich in East Frisia. The tourism experts explain this with the expected rise in temperature. The Easter holidays end in almost all federal states this weekend – Saturday is actually the main departure day for Easter holidaymakers on the coast. Now the place is preparing for many day vacationers instead.

2. Asparagus likes it warm and is already harvested

Whether in North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg, Thuringia or Saxony: the first asparagus has already been cut. The NRW Chamber of Agriculture said that the temperatures of the past few weeks allowed the vegetables to grow well. And the expected warm weather in the coming days is also ideal for asparagus.

3. Life slowly comes to life in and on the water

While some outdoor pools are still desperately looking for staff before the start of the season, others are already open, for example in Karlsruhe or Halle. Elsewhere there are lakes for swimming. But the German Red Cross water rescue service in Saxony warns against this. The water was still very cold at the beginning of April and there was a risk of rapid hypothermia and thus life-threatening danger. It might be safer in the dry on pedal boats and rowing boats. In Berlin, for example, some rental companies have already launched their boats.

4. Germany’s highest show cave is open

The entrance to the cave on the Wendelstein in the Mangfall Mountains in Bavaria is at over 1,700 meters. According to the Wendelsteinbahn, Germany’s highest show cave has been open to visitors for a few days. Otherwise it is sometimes only accessible again in May or even June – depending on the degree of icing and the amount of snow on the mountain.

5. Sweet cooling is waiting at ice cream parlors

There were already queues in front of ice cream parlors in some places, for example on Easter weekend. And the Federal Association of Italian Ice Cream Manufacturers, Uniteis, is also expecting high demand this weekend. It is assumed that day trippers would also treat themselves to ice cream, said the association spokeswoman. There are no signs of falling prices for ice cream in Thuringia’s cafés. However, a message from Uniteis states: “In Germany you pay less for a scoop of ice cream than elsewhere in Europe.”
