From April summer to April winter: The temperatures plummet, but recover by the weekend.

The hot days are over again: “The weather situation is changing,” said meteorologist Marcel Schmid from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Tuesday. Reason is one Cold front moving from west to east across Germany. But things should get better again at the weekend.

“On Wednesday night, a thin blanket of fresh snow may even form in the Alps above around 1,000 meters,” said the meteorologist – “virtually a rapid change from April summer to April winter.” With lows of down to 1 degree, the night will be significantly fresher than previous nights.

On Wednesday, Hoch “Peter” is already reaching out to Germany from southwest Europe. There will still be some precipitation in the Alps until midday. A few showers are also possible in the north. Otherwise it usually stays dry and the sun finds more and more gaps between the clouds. “With a maximum of 11 to 17 degrees, the maximum values are in the range that is expected at this time of year,” said the meteorologist.

On Thursday night – except in the north and northwest – frost is to be expected near the ground. Plants that cannot tolerate such temperatures on the ground should then be protected.

On Thursday, the foothills of low pressure areas with lots of clouds and some rain will be noticeable in the northern half. Otherwise the sun often shows up and the 20 degree mark is already broken again in the south and southeast.

According to the DWD, there will also be a north-south gradient in the following days in terms of temperatures and the duration of sunshine. On Saturday it will be unusually warm again in the south and southwest with highs of up to 28 degrees.
