After the crazy hustle and bustle, the sun largely takes a break on Ash Wednesday. However, it can get spring-like on Thursday.

Just in time for the end of the fifth season, the sky clouds over on Ash Wednesday. The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach said there would be mainly clouds in the coming days, Rain and “exceptionally mild” temperatures ahead.

The DWD expects thick cloud cover over a large area on Wednesday. Rain moves across the country from west to east, but in the south it stays rather dry and the sun also appears there at times. The maximum values ​​in the eastern half are 6 to 10 degrees, in the southwest highs of up to 15 degrees are possible. On Thursday night it will clear up from the Eifel to Chiemgau and it will mostly stay dry. It remains frost-free with lows between 11 and 5 degrees, in the south 5 to 1 degrees.

“On Thursday the supply of warm air will reach its peak,” explained meteorologist Marcel Schmid from the DWD. Temperatures of up to 18 degrees on the Rhine and Neckar “make you feel more like spring instead of late winter.” In the northern half it rains again and again with lots of dense clouds, while in the south it stays mostly dry with some sun. On Friday night it remains cloudy in the north, with occasional rain. Otherwise it will be variable to very cloudy with a few showers and south of the Danube it will remain mostly dry. Temperatures drop to 10 to 5 degrees, south of the Danube to 5 to 1 degrees.

“Friday is a common day,” said Schmid. In the east and southeast it will remain dry and sometimes sunny for longer. It rains frequently throughout the country during the day, but it remains mild at 11 to 17 degrees. On Saturday night there will be a lot of clouds and at times it will rain. The temperatures are between 8 and 3 degrees.
