Pick-ups have been a big hit in the USA for decades, and the F-100 as the forerunner of the best-selling F-150 is a true legend. On special request, the classic is now also available with an electric drive – and what kind of one.

At first glance, the bright US pick-up looks like a completely normal F-100 from 1978. Okay, it is apparently not on the road with the original landing gear and the condition is despite more than 40 years under the belt of a new car. The fact that this F-100 has no exhaust and that a loading flap peeks out on the left front fender should hardly be noticed by anyone on first contact. But that is precisely why this Ford F-100 of the custom series is a real show and of course it is electrically powered – with the technology of the recently introduced Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance. Under the large bonnet there is a small charging compartment and all kinds of cables and one of the two electric motors to marvel at – but no trace of a humming V6 or even a bassy V8 petrol engine. The two electric motors on the front and rear axles together produce an impressive 356 kW / 480 PS and an opulent torque of up to 860 Nm. The 100 series of the Ford F, which was produced from 1973 to 1980, was normally powered by V6 and V8 engines with a displacement of up to 7.5 liters.

“Ford owners have personalized, individualized and improved their vehicles right from the start – from changing their appearance to increasing their performance,” says Eric Cin, who is responsible for customization and accessories at Ford, “our F-100 Eluminator concept is a foretaste on how we support our customers in converting to fully electric drives and in introducing zero tailpipe emissions; even with our historic vehicles. ” With models like the F-100 Eluminator, Ford’s American Vehicle Personalization and Performance Parts departments are offering their customers completely new options for customizing their own vehicle, whether it’s a classic or a current car. The car giant from Dearborn increasingly wants to turn it into a business and also offer tuning parts for its future electric vehicles in order to keep the fans of the Blue Oval happy. No wonder, because the industry for tuning parts and accessories generates around 50 billion US dollars annually.

The fully electric F-100 Eluminator single item was developed by the Ford Performance department, which not least made use of the experts from MLe Racecars and the Roadster Shop. The electric pick-up was painted in light gray with subtle copper elements, while aluminum and avocado-tanned real leather set the tone on the inside. Controls and fittings also come from the Ford Mustang Mach-E. In addition, the power pick-up rolls on three-part 19×10-inch aluminum rims with high-speed tires in the format 275/45 R 19. The one-off Ford F-100 Eluminator, however, will not stop there. The built-in E-Crate motor with the part number M-9000-MACH-E is now available from authorized Ford dealers or online from Ford Performance Parts. Retailing at $ 3,900, it is aimed at hobbyists looking for a transverse powertrain to electrify a range of vehicles, from modern vehicles to classic cars, trucks, and SUVs. Each Eluminator E-Crate motor has 281 hp and a torque of 425 Nm and is street legal in at least all 50 US states. It won’t be long before these first vehicles arrive in Europe. There are plenty of fans of American pick-ups here – and they can now switch to electric drives.
