The tone goes up a notch. The United States said Thursday it had evidence that Moscow is planning to film a fake Ukrainian attack on Russia to use as a pretext to invade Ukraine, according to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.
“We believe that Russia could produce a very violent propaganda video, which would show corpses and actors playing the role of mourners, as well as images of destroyed places with Ukrainian or Western military equipment,” said Mr. Kirby during a press briefing.
Earlier today, Russia urged the United States to “stop fueling tensions” in the Russian-Western crisis around Ukraine. A request made the day after the American decision to send 3,000 additional soldiers to Eastern Europe.
