The cast of the “Wicked” film adaptation has a top star: Peter Dinklage has the honor – in a fairytale role.

“Game of Thrones” favorite Peter Dinklage (54) has landed another imaginative role. As was announced at the CinemaCon currently taking place in Las Vegas, the Tyrion Lannister actor is taking part in the film adaptation of the musical “Wicked”. According to the US site “Entertainment Weekly”, Dinklage has landed a role that is literally as tough as nails – as the talking goat Dr. Dillamond.

In the musical original “Wicked – The Witches of Oz” Dr. Dillamond, who teaches history at Glizz’s witch school, is given an important role. He explains to the main character Elphaba – embodied in the film by Cynthia Erivo (37) – about the impending disaster that awaits all the talking animals in Oz. Consequently, Dinklage will also perform the song “Something Bad”.

With the announcement of Dinklage’s commitment, the already top-class cast of the musical film adaptation has grown significantly. Ariana Grande (30), Jeff Goldblum (71), Michelle Yeoh (61) and “Bridgerton” star Jonathan Bailey (35) are also included.

That’s what “Wicked” is about

Like the Broadway original, “Wicked” tells the backstory of the Wicked Witch of the West – the main villain in “The Wizard of Oz.” Just in time for the Super Bowl, a first trailer provided a glimpse of the film adaptation: In it, the future witch (Erivo) arrives at the Glizz witch school – then known as Elphaba. However, there she scares the other students because of her green skin color. At school, the outsider befriends Glinda (Grande), who later became the Good Witch of the South in the Oz universe.

“Wicked” is scheduled to hit German cinemas on November 28, 2024. But this only starts the first part of the film adaptation of the hit musical. Part two will follow in December 2025.

“Wicked” has been running successfully on Broadway for over 20 years and the production won three Tony Awards. German versions of the musical, which is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire (69), were staged in Stuttgart, Oberhausen and Hamburg.
