Ascot visitors waited in vain for the Queen on the last day. The monarch missed the famous horse race this year.

Queen Elizabeth II (96) was also absent on the last day of Royal Ascot. At the racecourse in British Berkshire, however, the Duke of Kent (86), Princess Beatrice (33) and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi (38) showed up as royal representatives. As reported by The Daily Telegraphthe Queen, due to her limited mobility, is said to have watched the fifth and final day of the race on television at Windsor Castle, as she had been doing all week.

Corona pandemic made visits impossible

Queen Elizabeth II has always been a great fan of equestrian sports and is usually present at Royal Ascot every year. She has been the patron of horse racing since 1952. In 2020 she missed Royal Ascot for the first time since 1945 as the event was held without crowds due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Queen was in isolation at Windsor Castle with her late husband Prince Philip (1921-2021). According to British media reports, the monarch also followed the reports about Ascot on television there. In 2022, even after the Queen’s appearance on the first day of the race was canceled, Royal fans still hoped that she would show herself. In 2021, the Queen only attended the race on the last day.
