For homophobic chants during the derby, Stade Rennes is fined 70,000 euros

Six days after the significant sanction targeting Paris Saint-Germain (closure of the Auteuil stand for a match), after the homophobic chants heard during the Classic against OM, Stade Rennais was feverishly awaiting the decision of the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP), Wednesday evening. Because the Breton club was also affected by homophobic chants, sung on October 1 during the derby against FC Nantes (3-1).

Stade Rennais finally received a firm fine of 70,000 euros, without suspension from the stand, following the homophobic chants launched by the ultras of the Roazhon Celtic Kop, both against the Nantes residents and Matthis Abline, attacker Rennes loaned this summer to the FCN.

The decision for the firecracker in Montpellier postponed to October 25

In its press release, the LFP justifies this sanction by the “behavior of supporters of Stade Rennais: use of pyrotechnic devices and oral expressions observed”. In Ligue 2, a fine of 80,000 euros was also imposed on AC Ajaccio for the same reasons, plus “throwing objects”, as well as the closure for a suspended match of the Faedda stand at the François-Coty stadium , due to the incidents that occurred during the Corsican clash against Bastia on October 2 (2-0).

Concerning the boiling affair of the weekend, namely the throwing of a firecracker during the Montpellier-Clermont meeting, very close to the Clermont goalkeeper Mory Diaw, having led to the definitive interruption of the meeting, at 4-2 for the MHC at five minutes from the end, the LFP decided to put the case under investigation. The decision will be made at the end of the session on October 25. A man suspected of having thrown the firecracker and another who allegedly supplied the projectile were placed under judicial supervision, the Montpellier prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.
