Football World Cup: Kane misses a penalty, France is in the semifinals

Defending champions France and superstar Kylian Mbappe have reached the World Cup semi-finals by beating England.

Coach Didier Deschamps’ team made it into the top four with a 2-1 (1-0) win and can still hope to become the first nation since Brazil (1958 and 1962) to win the World Cup twice in a row to fetch.

Aurelien Tchouameni (17′) and Olivier Giroud (78′) scored for the Equipe Tricolore, who meet outsiders Morocco in the semifinals on Wednesday (20:00 CET). The English, who finished in the top four in 2018 and now have to wait for their first title since the home World Cup in 1966, didn’t get Harry Kane’s goal (54th, penalty kick) because the captain scored one in the 84th minute another penalty kick over the goal.
