Jürgen Klinsmann is threatened with retirement as coach of the South Korean national soccer team. An advisory committee of the Korean Football Association (KFA) recommended ending the collaboration with the former national coach.

The decision was made after a meeting of the commission in Seoul, said an association spokesman in Seoul. The final decision about Klinsmann’s future as head coach now lies in the hands of the KFA management committee and association president Chung Mong Gyu.

The 59-year-old Klinsmann faced strong criticism in South Korea after his team’s semi-final defeat against outsiders Jordan at the Asian Cup in Qatar. Fans had called for his resignation. Klinsmann has been looking after the fourth-placed team in the 2002 World Cup since the beginning of last year. His contract runs until the 2026 World Cup final.
