Football – Ligue 1 – 2nd day: Monaco and Rennes back to back (1-1), Steve Mandanda injured

Stade Rennais will have regrets. After dominating the game for a long time, Bruno Génésio’s men lost two precious points to Louis-II against AS Monaco on the second day of Ligue 1 (1-1). The first goal scored by Gaëtan Laborde this season was not enough (60th), because the Monegasques equalized via Breel Embolo on a big ball from the young Turkish goalkeeper of the Bretons, Doğan Alemdar (72nd).

While Benjamin Bourigeaud’s teammates hovered around 70% possession throughout the game, they could even have left the Principality empty-handed, without a saving reflex save from Alemdar in front of Jakobs at the end of added time.

ASM’s nightmare start

Eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday by PSV Eindhoven, Philippe Clement’s players had to recover in front of their audience this Saturday at the Louis-II stadium. It started pretty well, with a nice shot from Vanderson pushed back by the crossbar after a nice serve from Krépin Diatta (13th). However, on a harmless action, Youssouf Fofana was excluded a few seconds later, after leaving a sole lying on the right tibia of Martin Terrier (15th).

A direct red card with heavy consequences, since it was the captain of AS Monaco, Wissam Ben Yedder, who gave way to the young midfielder Soungoutou Magassa in stride. Official shooter, Ben Yedder was therefore no longer on the lawn when Steve Mandanda conceded a penalty on Embolo after a very late intervention, penalty completely missed by Axel Disasi (33rd).

Alemdar, for better or for worse

Not recovered from this duel, Mandanda was therefore unable to complete the 467th match of his career in Ligue 1. He was therefore replaced by Doğan Alemdar. The young Turkish international goalkeeper therefore quietly attended Gaëtan Laborde’s opener on an action initiated by Arnaud Kalimuendo, the new Red and Black striker from Paris Saint-Germain (0-1, 59th). While the match seemed in hand for Bruno Génésio’s men, Alemdar then got a hole on a clearance blocked by Embolo in the Rennes net (1-1, 72nd).

The Rennais never have to recover from this stroke of fate. The Monegasque substitutes could even have inflicted them a second defeat in a row in the top flight, without a monstrous reflex stoppage from Alemdar in front of Jakobs after a superb cross from Gelson Martins, after additional time (90th + 5). Stade Rennais leaves the Côte d’Azur frustrated, and has still not won a Ligue 1 match this season.
