Jurgen Klopp has praised Liverpool and Manchester United fans for their moving action for footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. In the 7th minute of the Reds’ Premier League game against Ronaldo club Manchester United, all spectators in the famous stadium on Anfield Road applauded for around 60 seconds.
In doing so, they expressed their support for Ronaldo and his partner after their tragedy. “This is exactly how football should be – all rivalries aside at this moment,” said Klopp after the 4-0 win for Liverpool: “There is only one thing that matters and that was really a demonstration of class.”
The 37-year-old Ronaldo mourns the loss of their son with his partner. The wording in a statement earlier this week suggested that he did not survive a twin birth. “It’s the worst that can happen,” said United coach Ralf Rangnick: “We’re behind him. We’re all with him. We wish him and his family to be strong together.”
The fan action for Ronaldo in the 7th minute alludes to the fact that the striker has worn the shirt number 7 with club and national team for years. All Liverpool and Manchester professionals played with black armbands on Tuesday night.
