Not all the teams have yet qualified, but the women’s and men’s Olympic tournament will become a little more concrete this evening with the draw for the group stage. Among the women, Hervé Renard and the Bleues appear in hat 1. Good news. Eugénie Le Sommer’s partners are in fact guaranteed to avoid two heavyweights, namely the last two world champion nations: Spain and the United States.
But be careful, because hats 2 and 3 could have several unpleasant surprises in store for them (Germany, Japan, Australia and the Canadian title holders). As a reminder, the Bleues will play two group matches in the OL den (July 25 and 31) and one at Geoffroy-Guichard (July 28). Linked to the French team until the end of the Olympics, will Hervé Renard allow Les Bleues to win their first major title?
The French will be fixed
Among the men, the induction of Thierry Henry was also a strong signal in view of these Olympic Games. A highly publicized coach supposed to put together an XXL team, just to forget the Tokyo fiasco in 2021.
