An old Swiss folk song could become the anthem of this uncomfortable energy-saving autumn. “Enjoy life because the little lamp is still glowing,” is the refrain of the transience song, and further: “pick the rose while it blooms.” The joy of the little lamp will probably be somewhat clouded in view of the electricity bill. But the supply of roses is secured: the Germans’ favorite flower can be bought all year round, 24/7; and if the florist has just closed, then just in the hardware store or at the gas station.
