The director of the world-famous Uffizi Museum in Florence, Eike Schmidt, 55, is moving to Naples. Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano announced on Friday evening that he had entrusted Schmidt with the management of the Capodimonte Museum in Naples. He replaces the Frenchman Sylvain Bellengerè, who has been in office since 2015. Positions of this importance in Italy can only be awarded for two four-year periods; this also applied to Schmidt in Florence.
