Due to a technical defect, a fire broke out in a Flixtrain on the way from Hamburg-Dammtor to Hamburg Central Station. The train driver was still able to drive the train into Hamburg Central Station.

Moment of shock for around 600 travelers on a Flixtrain in Hamburg on Friday afternoon. During the journey, shortly after the start of the journey, a fire broke out in one of the train’s carriages behind Dammtor station.

Flixtrain evacuated after fire in Hamburg

The locomotive driver of the Flixtrain was able to drive his train into the hall of Hamburg Central Station, a spokesman for the fire department told the DPA news agency. The passengers were brought to safety there and the train and the platform on track 12 were evacuated, the “Hamburger Abendblatt” reported. According to the information, no one was injured.

Firefighters entered the smoke-filled train using breathing apparatus to fight the fire. The operation was over after around an hour.

The cause of the fire is believed to be a defective transformer in the train.

Flixtrain is a private long-distance train provider that has been competing with Deutsche Bahn since 2017. In addition to the connection from Hamburg to Leipzig, the company also serves the routes Basel/Stuttgart – Berlin and Cologne – Dresden/Leipzig, among others.
