Climate activists daub small planes with paint on the BER site
Activists of the “Last Generation” entered the premises of the BER airport and soiled a small plane. Flight operations are not affected. It wasn’t the activists’ first action on Friday.
Climate demonstrators of the so-called “last generation” entered the premises of BER Airport on Friday afternoon and sprayed a small aircraft with orange paint.
As a spokeswoman for the federal police told rbb, the emergency services were informed of the incident at 12:42 p.m. The operation is still ongoing – it is unclear how many people entered the fenced area and whether other aircraft are affected. Air traffic is currently not affected, the spokeswoman said.
Activists: Airport fence severed
According to the group, activists cut through the airport fence and rode to the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) on bicycles. Private jets and business travel flights take off from there. The campaign could be seen via live stream on Twitter, among other places, and a sprayed plane is clearly visible in the video.
In a statement, the group called private jets symbols “of excessive luxury” with which “a minority is ruthlessly destroying the climate at the expense of the majority”.
Numerous traffic blockades in the morning
In the morning, climate demonstrators of the “last generation” had again blocked commuter traffic at numerous points in Berlin.
The police were on duty in at least 11 locations throughout the city, as a spokesman confirmed to rbb|24. One focus of the protest was the north of Berlin. Several actions were reported in the area of Greifswalder Strasse/Prenzlauer Allee and Danziger Strasse. Buses operated by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) were also affected by the disturbances.
The blocking actions have now ended, as the Berlin Traffic Information Center writes on Twitter.
