Hansi Flick described the 3-3 draw against England as a “good test”. The votes on the Nations League game in Germany.

Hosts England and Germany drew 3-3 in the Nations League. National coach Hansi Flick saw an overall “good test”. The voices of the game.

Monday night’s Nations League game between England and Germany offered two completely different halves. While the teams mostly equalized in the first half, things got really busy in the second 45 minutes.

First, Hansi Flick’s selection took a 2-0 lead. First Ilkay Gündogan scored with a penalty kick (52nd minute), before Kai Havertz was also able to net fifteen minutes later. However, the Three Lions turned the game around within twelve minutes. Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Harry Kane could celebrate. With his second goal of the evening, Havertz scored the 3:3 equalizer a few minutes before the final whistle.

Flick sees a “good test”: The positive outweighs the pessimism

“The first half was balanced, in the second we deservedly led 2-0. Then we made individual mistakes,” Flick summarized most of the game (via sky). It shouldn’t happen “that we give up such a lead,” he emphasized.

Nevertheless, the national coach remained fundamentally optimistic. Both in terms of the individual game, but also in terms of the general starting position: “We came back, that’s the positive thing. It was a good test, we took a lot of positive but also negative things with us. There’s a lot of work for us, but we are optimistic, otherwise we could stay at home.”

When the 26-man squad is set up and the team meets to leave together, the national coach expects that “we are all excited [sind]”to play the best possible World Cup”.

Joshua Kimmich was a little more annoyed about the lost lead. After all, the DFB-Elf had had control of the game up until then. “We had everything under control and deservedly lead 2-0. Then we become much too passive, no longer push through consistently, defend far too deep, no longer have the courage to play against the ball – somehow inexplicable,” said the midfielder .

But he was able to identify “an improvement”: in body language and commitment. That was a point of criticism after Flick’s first defeat against Hungary a few days ago.

The fact that the national team now has to accept two games without a win does not mean that Kimmich is in any greater danger. He was quite relaxed: “Everyone now has six weeks to get a good feeling and then we will attack.”

Double goal scorer Havertz saw a “good game to learn from”. However, he became clearer than Flick and Kimmich in terms of the lost lead. It should “of course worry you” if you let a 2-0 become a 2-3. The team now has “seven weeks to rectify the errors”.

“We have shown over long periods that we can do it at the highest level,” Gündogan wanted to remain optimistic. However: “We have to try to do that for 90 minutes. At a World Cup you have much less leeway to make mistakes than today.”

In view of the quality of the team, he considers the goal of the World Cup final to be “not unrealistic”. But “a lot has to come together” for this to happen. And yet: “I don’t see a team that is miles ahead.”
